'll kill you and your kids': Gerrard threatened by crazed fan in shocking training ground scare
Liverpool are reviewing training ground security after Steven Gerrard had to be restrained from confronting a member of the public who hurled abuse and threats at him after scaling a perimeter fence at the
Melwood complex.
England captain Gerrard was practising free-kicks ahead of tomorrow’s Premier League clash against Swansea at the Liberty Stadium and initially ignored the unnamed man, whose hands were covered in anti-vandal paint after he climbed the perimeter barrier.
Gerrard continued to strike kicks at goalkeeper Simon Mignolet as part of an exercise with team-mate Philippe Coutinho until the abuse became personal. One eyewitness said the man shouted at Gerrard: ‘I know where you live, you p***k’ and ‘I’ll burn your f***ing house down’.
Gerrard started walking towards the man, who appeared to be in his late 30s or early 40s and was dressed in jeans and a dark zip-up jacket.
Liverpool assistant manager Colin Pascoe prevented Gerrard from going near the man and kit manager Lee Radcliffe ran from the pitch to go outside and confront the abuser.
As Radcliffe got closer, the man rode away on a bicycle with a parting shot aimed at Gerrard. ‘I’ll kill you and your kids,’ he yelled.
Liverpool declined to comment on Saturday night. Gerrard moves to confront the fan after comments become personal including threats to his family
