"Treat Us LikeThe Chibok Girls" -Nigerian Soldiers Lament

Nigerian soldiers fighting Boko Haram demand better treatment
Mr Usman was admitted to military hospital, Maimalari Cantonment, about three weeks ago after he was badly wounded in fight against Boko Haram terrorists.
The man said his both legs were broken after a vehicle conveying him and 9 fellow soldiers to Monguno in Borno north hit a mine planted by the terrorists.
He said: “We need Nigerians to take care of us. Like this my injury, broken legs, they suppose to take me to a specialist hospital or abroad for a good treatment.
If it is these girls – Chibok school girls, they will take them abroad. We are the ones fighting in the bush. I cannot fight again because I do not have that strength any more.
My legs are broken. If I get well, I will retire because my legs are broken. I can no longer go and fight the insurgents.”
Another soldier, Sgt. Ahmed Musa, of 119 battalion task force, visited by Lt-Gen Tukur Buratai, the chief of army staff, said:
“My situation when I got here was worse but God I am getting healed. I have injury in one of my hands. When he – Buratai came here we are happy because when we came here we did not see anybody. We appreciate the way he comes here.”
According to Cpl Innocent Gabriel, a nurse, the common injuires are fractures resulting from explosions and gunshots. She also added that the majority of wounded soldiers respond well to treatment.
There are currently 97 wounded soldiers being treated at hospital with capacity of 105 beds for patients.
The hospital is reportedly collaborating with the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital (UMTH) to provide everything necessary for its patients.
Buratai described the call as “operation and welfare visit” to encourage the soldiers. He expressed hopes that most of them would soon be discharged and also commended for their service.
