The Republican billionaire, during an interview on CBS’s “60 minutes,” which was broadcasted on Sunday, said:
“I’m not going to take the salary. I’m not taking it.”
Confirming a promise he made in a campaign video in September, he added:
“I think I have to by law take $1, so I’ll take $1 a year.”
In his first televised interview as president-elect, Trump also reassured Americans not to be fearful of a crackdown on minorities — while assuring his core supporters that he will not let them down on gun rights, abortion or immigration.
“Don’t be afraid. We are going to bring our country back,” he said in the interview with CBS’s “60 Minutes.”
The assurance was made on a day the US president-elect made his first two key appointments to serve in the influential positions of the White House.
On Sunday, Trump appointed Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus as his chief of staff, and right-wing Breitbart news executive Stephen Bannon as chief strategist and senior counselor.

The choice of Priebus, a loyal campaign ally to Trump who has close ties with House of Representatives Speaker Paul Ryan, signaled a willingness to work with Ryan and the Republican-led Congress to get his agenda passed.
“I am thrilled to have my very successful team continue with me in leading our country. Steve and Reince are highly qualified leaders who worked well together on our campaign and led us to a historic victory. Now I will have them both with me in the White House,” Trump said in a statement.
