Champions of England, Chelsea, will have to pay a British record fee of £72m if they wish to sign French international Paul Pogba this summer and then offer him an additional £82.5m in wages, as per recent reports. Club officials are keen on adding one more big name to the Blues’ squad, after losing out on Everton defender John Stones.
The 22-year old midfield superstar has now emerged as the leading target for the west London side, with Jose Mourinho an admirer of his play.
However, in order to sign the Juventus midfielder, the west London side will have to break the British transfer record set by Manchester United(£59.7m) to bring Angel Di Maria to Old Trafford last summer.
Also, with European champions Barcelona also interested in the former United man’s services, there is no guarantee that Pogba will return to the Premier League.
The Express confirmed that the club will have to pay over £300,000-a-week, in order to complete his move to Stamford Bridge, which would make him the highest paid footballer in the Premier League.
Eden Hazard is at the moment, Chelsea’s highest paid player and makes £250,000-a-week before tax, but Jose Mourinho’s side will now have to shell more money as they seem desperate to complete a move for the Frenchman.
